VERY NICE VIEW OF ANTIETAM NATIONAL CEMETERY

$95.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 2023-436

Image dates from the 1880’s or 90’s and was done by a Hagerstown photographer named B. W. T. Phreaner.

Photo was taken from a high platform or roof, most likely the roof of the cemetery gatehouse. The view overlooks the trees planted in the front portion of the cemetery and the treelined pathway leading to the large statue of a Union soldier known to locals as “Old Simon” at center of the burying ground. Rows of graves are visible all around the statue and in the distance can be seen the hills and valleys over which the two sides fought on the late afternoon of September 17, 1862.

Image meas. approx. 7.75 x 4.75 inches and is mounted on a cream-colored stock meas. 12.00 x 9.00. Bottom right is impressed with the photographer’s mark.

Contrast and clarity of the image is excellent. Stock mount has minor to light surface dirt.  [ad][ph:L]
