Offered here is a fine albumen photo of Confederate General Robert E. Lee. The original photograph was recorded by Julian Vannerso in March of 1864.
This oval print measures 5.25” x 7.25” and is mounted on a trimmed mount that originally had printed ovals framing the image as well as a caption. The portion that is still visible is, “LEE … Richmond, Va.”
The image remains clear with good contrast; it’s just a shame that the mount was trimmed. The back has old two-sided tape remnants. Rubber stamped on the back is “COLLECTION / OF / AMBROSE LEE / WILLIAMSBRIDGE / NEW YORK CITY”.
This print is taped to a modern oval mat and in a modern wood frame. From the collection of William Turner. [jet] [ph:L]
