A framed albumen silver print from the celebrated "Incidents of the War" series, depicting Charles City Courthouse, Virginia, June 1864, with figures visible in the foreground and along the structure. Full period caption reads:
"Incidents of the War. Charles City Courthouse, Va."

Entered according to act of Congress, in the year 1865, by A. Gardner, in the Clerk's Office of the District Court of the District of Columbia.

Photographer: Timothy H. O'Sullivan, negative; Alexander Gardner, positive print — two of the most celebrated names in American Civil War photography. This image dates from June 1864, during the Overland Campaign, when Union forces moved through Charles City County, Virginia.
The photograph is presented in a double mat — cream over black — in a mahogany-finish wood frame, glazed with UV-protective plexiglass.
