This small photograph album measures 3.5” tall x 3” wide x 0.75” thick. Cloth bound with impressed design on covers and spine. A piece of the brass locking clasp is missing. Cover surfaces show light wear and fading. The spine remains strong and unbroken.
The inside cover sheet shows moderate foxing that nearly obscures a faint inscription, “Mattie Young / Westbrook, Penn.” There are twelve double-sided pages that are cut to house four images each. Most of the images are gem size tintypes of friends and family in civilian clothes, identified in pencil. There are 50 of these included. Near the back are six gem size CDV-like small paper portraits of famous Confederate generals; Longstreet, Morgan, Jackson, Lee, Johnston, and Stuart. There are several empty, unused pages.
A very interesting personal possession from the era. [jet] [ph:L]
