Bust view wearing a Civil War 4 button sack coat with Sgt. Major’s stipes, and vest & bowtie. Printed on the bottom border of the mount is, “LIEUT. ABNER F. DURGIN, QR. MR.”. No photographer’s mark. Period ink inscription on reverse: “Abner  F. Durgin / Co. E, / Lieut & Quartermaster”.

Overall good condition; indentations on each edge, perhaps from being in a photo album or frame.  Soiling/staining along left & right edges on reverse.

Born in 1840 in Concord, NH, Durgin was a resident of that city when he enlisted on 5/21/61 at the age of 21 as a Private. On 6/3/61 he mustered into Co. E, 2nd NH Infantry. Re-enlisted on 1/1/64. Promoted to Qtr Master Sgt. on 2/1/64 & transferred to Field & Staff, 2nd NH. Promoted to 1st Lt. & QM on 6/24/64. Discharged on 12/19/65. Died on 1/5/1902 in Concord and is buried in Woodlawn Cemetery in Penacook, NH.[ld]
