Image shows John C. W. Moore originally of Company B. He wears a dark civilian suit with white shirt and dark tie. Bottom of the mount has a printed caption with his name and Company.

Image has very good clarity and contrast. Mount has some minor edge wear and a chip in the upper left corner. Paper is good.

Reverse has no photographer’s mark. Period ink inscription at top reads “J. C. W. MOORE DR, CONRAD, N.H. CO. B.”

John C. W. Moore was born in Wells, Maine on January 30, 1837. He enlisted as a private at Concord, New Hampshire in Company B, 2nd New Hampshire Infantry on May 27, 1861. He was discharged for promotion near Falmouth, Virginia on February 21, 1863. The same day he was appointed assistant surgeon of the 11th New Hampshire Infantry. He served with that regiment in the 9th Corps until discharged on October 8, 1864 at Concord, New Hampshire.

After the war he remained in Concord where he practiced medicine. He was an active member of the E. E. Sturtevant Post #2 of the GAR where he held the position of Post Surgeon. He died in Concord on November 29, 1897.

The 2nd was a hard fought regiment seeing action at 1st Bull Run, Williamsburg, Oak Grove, Gaines’ Mill, White Oak Swamp, Malvern Hill, 2nd Bull Run, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville and Gettysburg where the 2nd bore the brunt of the assault on the Peach Orchard. After Gettysburg the 2nd garrisoned Point Lookout for a time before returning to the army to fight at Drewry’s Bluff, Cold Harbor and Petersburg.  [ad] [ph:L]
