Full length seated view of man dressed for a hunting expedition, holding a bugle in his lap; his musket is propped against the wall nearby, and his 3 dogs sit at his feet. Someone has made dark spots where the dogs’ pupils would be. Overall very fine condition.

ID in period ink on the image, “M G Reed”. Below on the mount is “Down along the branch”.  In period in ink the reverse is, “Cheerily Blow the Bugle, Horn / In the cold gray woods at early morn / Loose the Hounds and let them go / Wax the cord and Bend the Bow.” BM: James Haus, Mifflinburg, Pa.    [ld] [ph:L]
