A unique roller-style CDV viewer. Leatherette-covered wooden box has two wood drums holding a long strip of linen affixed with paper CDV sleeves. Space for 50 views. Two wooden knobs mounted on the exterior can be turned to scroll through the views. The lid is hinged with leather straps which are still functional. There are two viewing windows with stamped brass surrounds of the type normally seen in cased images. Item is adorned with white glass beads.
Paper label on underside reads, “PATENTED APRIL 11, 1865”. Measures 9 ½” wide by 5 ¼” deep by 4 ½” high.
Viewer shows light wear all over, mainly at corners and edges. Most of the paper mounts on the linen are torn. Overall, good condition for a well- used piece from the period. [sm] [ph:L]
