CDV is a three-quarter seated view of General Lee in a dark civilian suit. He is posed with his hands resting in his lap and his head is turned in a slight right profile.
Bottom has caption of “GENERAL ROBERT E. LEE” with publication information for 1866.
Clarity is good but the paper and mount are toned
Reverse has photographer’s imprint for ALEX. GARDNER… WASHINGTON, D.C. There is also a green 2 cent tax stamp with collector information in pencil.
