Photograph shows a bust profile view of freed slave child Rosina Downs. Printed on mount under the image is: "Rosa. / A slave child from New Orleans." Photographer's backmark, Chas. Paxson, New York. Also on the back is printed: "No. 10. / Entered, according to act of Congress, in the year 1864, by S. Tackaberry, in the Clerk's Office of the U.S. for the Southern District of New-York. / The nett [sic] proceeds from the sale of these photographs will be devoted to the education of colored people in the Department of the Gulf, now under the command of Maj. Gen. Banks."
