CDV is a chest-up view of Jackson in the uniform of a Confederate general. He is posed in left profile. This image was originally taken in the field by photographers Minnis & Cowell shortly before the General’s death in May of 1863.
The image was used here by the Lee Gallery of Richmond who added a black background and issued the view as a mourning card after the Jackson’s death.
Contrast and clarity are excellent as is the card and mount. Black background has oxidized to a dark brown. Bottom center has “GEN (STONEWALL) JACKSON” in modern pen.
Reverse has a decorative imprint for LEE GALLERY… RICHMOND, VA. There is also some collector information in pencil at bottom.
From the collection of the late William A. Turner. [ad] [ph:L]
