CDV shows Kendall posed with one hand resting on a podium partially hidden by drapes. He wears a dark frock coat with light trousers. His sash is wrapped around his waist and crossed over one shoulder as worn when acting as Officer of the Day.
Contrast and clarity are very good. Mount and paper are the same showing only minor surface dirt along the edge of the mount.
Reverse has a photographer’s imprint for W. G. SMITH… COOPERSTOWN, N.Y. Top has a period pencil notation of “TILLEY ALBUM.” ID is confirmed by several other online images.
Uriah B. Kendall was born in New Lisbon, New York on March 28, 1819.
He was commissioned captain of Company H, 152nd New York Infantry on September 25, 1862.
The regiment served in the defenses of Washington until April of 1863 when it was sent to Suffolk, Virginia where it became part of the 7th Corps. It took part in the successful defense of Suffolk against Longstreet and then served with Keys on the Peninsula in July of 1863. The regiment was then shifted to New York City to quell the draft riots. It would remain there until October of 1863 when it was then assigned to the Army of the Potomac.
Captain Kendall became ill and was discharged for disability on October 8, 1863. He died in Fly Creek, New York on March 9, 1906 and is buried in Fly Creek Valley Cemetery. [ad] [ph:L]
