Bust view CDV of George Ames who was an agent for the Ames Manufacturing Company in Chicopee, Massachusetts. The company made swords of various types and patterns as well as tools, cutlery, and ordnance from 1829 to 1881. The company had numerous government contracts before and during the Civil War.
George Ames is shown in the usual dark civilian suit with a white shirt and light-colored bowtie.
Contrast and clarity are good. Paper and mount just have some light surface dirt.
Reverse has a photographer’s imprint for KNOX… CHICOPEE, MASS. At bottom is a period ink inscription that reads “GEO. AMES AGENT OF AMES MFG. CO. CHICOPEE, MASS.” [ad][ph:L]
