Image shows a bearded officer identified as Captain Henry Robinson of Staunton, Virginia. The subject wears a light-colored double-breasted frockcoat with a dark collar bearing the three horizontal stripes of a captain.
Contrast and clarity are excellent. Paper has some scattered moderate surface dirt. Upper right has a vertical line of ink. Mount is in good condition and has a pencil ID at bottom center that reads “CAPT. H. ROBINSON.”
Reverse has no photographer’s imprint but does have an old pencil ID that reads “CAPT. HY. ROBINSON STAUNTON, VA. CONFEDERATE.”
Image is from the collection of the late William A. Turner.
Quick research has failed to uncover who this officer actually is and what regiment he served with. Perhaps with time and perseverance a more positive ID could be made. [ad][ph:L]
