This CDV by E. & H.T. Anthony is a composite of multiple images of Union Generals connected with the different military departments. Altogether there 7 images on the card. At center is Benjamin F. Butler (Department of Virginia) with John G. Foster (Department of North Carolina) above him and David Hunter (Department of the West and Kansas) below. The left edge of the card has William Rosecrans (Department of the Missouri) and Franz Sigel (Department of West Virginia) while the right edge has Nathaniel P. Banks (Department of the Gulf) and Quincy A. Gilmore (Department of the South.) At very bottom of the card is “GENERALS OF DEPARTMENTS.”

Photo surface shows light wear and moderate dirt. Contrast is good and lettering is readable. Reverse has photographer’s imprint as mentioned above. [ad] [ph:L]
