General Sedgewick was the commander of the 6th Corps who was famously killed in action at the battle of Spotsylvania Court House on May 9, 1864.
Shown here in a bust portrait view, he wears his double-breasted uniform with shoulder boards and corps ribbon with medal. The photo and mounting card are in excellent condition, save for a small edge dent along the bottom. The card reads “Entered according to act of Congress in the District Court of the District of New Jersey by CHAS. WEITFER, Photographer, 1st Div. 6th Corps.” A gold double line border traces the edges of the card and surrounds the photo. Written on the back in pencil is “Gen. Sedgewick com. 6th Corps”. The photo measures 4.1” x 2.4”.
A rare opportunity to collect an image of one of the more revered generals of the Army of the Potomac. [cm][ph:L]
