This CDV shows a bust view of a bearded man in civilian clothes. He wears a dark jacket, his vest unbuttoned, and a cravat. A period ink inscription reads: “Capt. Elliot C.S.A.” Sadly, we do not know the full identity of the Captain Elliot photographed here.
The clarity and contrast of the image are very good. Minor surface dirt is present throughout with a minor smudge beneath the word “Capt.”
The reverse has a two-cent cancelled tax stamp present as well as modern collector notations at the bottom of the mount. Otherwise, the back is clear excluding some minor surface dirt.
This image was once part of the Ray Richey collection of Bill Turner images. [cla][ph:L]
