This CDV is marked reversely along the top “Brady” and “Washington”. This well-known image features a half-view of a seated President Abraham Lincoln and was taken on January 8th, 1864.
Light staining is noted along the card edges and upper right corner, with a spot stain on the image to the right of the President. The mounting card is a common white style with double line gold border. The left corner of the card shows moderate damage and is missing a 1.65” x .45” section which extends to the image. The reverse shows discoloration, but it has no effect on the presentation and gives it a nice, period look. A pasted label at center reads “’SPECIALITE.” SELBY & MCCAULEY, Photograph Album & Carte de Visite DEPOT, NO. 36 WEST BALTIMORE STREET.” A penciled notation reads “123402405’. Overall measurements are 2.45” x 3.95”.
An iconic carte de visite photograph for the collector of Civil War and historic images. [cm][ph:L]
