CDV photograph of First Lady Mary Todd Lincoln. This image was originally taken by Civil War photographer Matthew Brady in 1862.
The image features lesser quality and is a copy-shot or “pirate view” of Brady's original image made by a taking a photo of a printed copy of the image and then printing more copies from that photographic plate, inevitably resulting in a loss of quality.
The mount features the typical single rule printed around the outer edge and is untrimmed. The reverse has printed advertising backmark in red ink, “GIVEN AWAY / AT / NORTHROP'S BAZAAR, / 241 MAIN STREET / BRIDGEPORT, CONN.” There is toning, light staining, on mount as well as some wear and small tears around edges. ''Mrs. Lincoln'' printed on mount beneath photo. [jet][ph:L]
