Carte de visite based on what is considered to be the first photographic image of the new president. It is believed to have been photographed at some point between March 1, 1861 and the end of June 1861. The exact date and the photographer are unknown. The photograph is often referred to as the "Speed" photograph due to a larger inscribed version of the image that was presented to Mrs. Speed, a friend of the President.

Bust view of the president with good clarity and contrast. Photo attached to plain cdv mount which is clean and in good condition.

There is a large brown glue stain above the photographer's backmark from J.E. McLees of Philadelphia. [jet][ph:L]
