CDV photo of Pratt standing in full uniform. Wearing single-breasted nine-button frock with captain’s shoulder straps, sword belt with sword at side, gauntlets, and holding kepi in hand. Image is very clear with good contrast. Plain mount remains very clean with Brady imprint at bottom edge. No backmark.
Henry Clay Pratt (1814-1884). After graduating from the United States Military Academy in 1837, Henry was assigned to the 2nd U.S. Artillery. He served in the Seminole War in Florida in 1838, after which he was promoted 1st Lt. He was cited for gallantry and brevetted Captain for his valor at Atlixco during the Mexican War. At the start of the Civil War, he was commissioned Major and Paymaster in the U.S. Army on 14 June 1861 (later brevetted Lt. Col.), and served until 1879. He died 2/14/1884. [jet] [ph:L]
