This CDV features a standing Walter Dickson, who enlisted on 8/26/1862 at age 26 in Middletown as a Sergeant. He promoted to 1st Sergeant on 1/1/1864 and 2nd Lieutenant on 12/21/1864. He mustered out on 6/25/1865 at Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.
The image is in nice condition with only minimal wear to the upper right corner. The photo is mounted to a typical card with solid gold bordering along the edges of the front face. The reverse is clean with a used 2 cent stamp, penciled notations which read “Lieut. Walter Dickson p. 224 McKee 144 NY VOLS / 144 NY VOL alb. / Send to Lt. Dixon / (?) Kingston, Ny.” A photographer’s stamp reads “ J. H. WHITLEY & CO. Corner Lake & Water Sts. Elmira, N. Y.”
A very nice Carte-de-Visite image of a young US Officer. [cm] [ph:L]
