Originally from Wheeling, (West) Virginia, Jesse Reno would achieve notoriety as an effective and dependable field commander. He rose to the command of a Corps in the Army of the Potomac before dying from a wound received at the Battle of South Mountain in September of 1862.
This bust view of General Reno is mounted to a common card, with double gold line bordering. All edges and corners remain sharp. Some light, scattered foxing is noted on the image itself, with a miniscule area of material loss along the center left edge. The reverse is clean, with a penciled “Gen Reno” heading and stylized photographer’s back mark logo reading “Published by E & H.T. ANTHONY, / 501 Broadway, New York. / MANUFACTURERS / of the best / PHOTOGRAPHIC ALBUMS”. A cancelled 2-cent stamp with a single line is affixed at low center. Overall measurements are 2.4” x 4”.
A perfect opportunity to add a nice image of General Reno to your collection. [cm] [ph:L]
