General McPherson was the second highest ranking officer of the US Army to be killed during the Civil War and is featured in this well-known view. The image shows good contrast and remains in good condition, save for a very small perforation at the upper left edge. The mounting card is of a commonly seen variety with gold line bordering.
The reverse is clean, with a penned “175” and penciled “Mc Pherson –“. A stylized photographer’s back mark logo stamp reads “Published by / E & H. T. ANTHONY, / 501 Broadway, New York / MANUFACTURERS / of the best / PHOTOGRAPHIC ALBUMS”. A cancelled two-cent stamp is affixed beneath the logo with two cancellation lines. Overall measurements are 2.4” x 4”.
A very nice photograph of “the best man in our Army” – worthy of a place in a discerning collection. [cm] [ph:L]
