General Banks was one of the most adept political operators of the war, using his extensive network to secure a general’s commission. His lack of experience led to mixed results and outright blunders, such as the infamous Red River Campaign and his efforts to isolate Confederate forces in Louisiana.
This Carte-de-Visite is in excellent condition, with no overt damage to the image itself. The mounting card features a nice burgundy border with sharp edges and corners. The reverse is clean, with a very nice back mark reading “Published by E. ANTHONY, 501 Broadway, N. Y. Manufacturer of Photographic Albums. FROM Photographic Negative in BRADY’S National Portrait Gallery. Snyder, Black & Sturn, N.Y.”
A great image for the discerning collector of Civil War images. [cm] [ph:L]
