Offered here are a pair of cdv photographs. One of Lt. Col. Henry C. Pratt, and one of his wife.
The image of Pratt is a chest up view in uniform. He wears a double-breasted frock with shoulder straps. Image is clean and crisp with good contrast. Plain mount is untrimmed. Very clean overall with “Pratt” in period pencil below image. Back is blank with modern pencil notation along bottom edge, “From Alexander Stewart Webb’s album.”
CDV of Mrs. Pratt shows her in full dress. Photo is trimmed and features the same notation on the reverse as the previous photo described.
After graduating from the United States Military Academy in 1837, Pratt was assigned to the 2nd U.S. Artillery. He served in the Seminole War in Florida in 1838, after which he was promoted 1st Lt. He was cited for gallantry and brevetted Captain for his valor at Atlixco during the Mexican War. At the start of the Civil War, he was commissioned Major and Paymaster in the U.S. Army on 14 June 1861 (later brevetted Lt. Col.), and served until 1879.
Henry married Mary Cornelia Clitz in Bridgewater, Massachusetts on 26 May 1841. They had at least seven children: Mary Clarissa, Henry Clitz (d. 1887), Sedgewick, Clara Virginia, Chester Mellon (d. 1907), Edward Barton and William. [jet] [ph:L]
