Typical mount with ruled border; untrimmed. Nicely signed in ink at bottom, “Capt. Geo. M. Tillson 161st N.Y. Vols.” No backmark.
George Milton Tillson was from Richfield, NY and 21 years old when he enlisted on 9/29/1862 at Albany. On 11/10/1862, he was commissioned Captain of Company K, 161st New York Infantry.
The 161st spent its three years as part of the 19th Army Corps in the Department of the Gulf. Tillson was severely wounded in the right arm on 4/8/1864 at Sabine Cross Roads, LA.
