Bust view of Shute in uniform. He wears a double-breasted frock with collar insignia and wears a kepi and eyeglasses. The image is clear with good contrast. Signed in ink at the bottom of image. Photographer's backmark, Anderson's, New Orleans.

Identified as T.L. Shute. He enlisted on May 16, 1862 as a Private in Fenner's Battalion of Louisiana Light Artillery. On July 20, 1864 Shute was found unfit for field duty because of his poor vision. He was detailed as assistant to Captain Foster. On November 1, 1864 he was transferred to Company B of Bradford's Corps of Scouts and Guards. He surrendered with all of General Taylor's men to General Canby on May 4, 1865.
