Bust view wearing double-breasted frock. Image is clear with good contrast. Buttons have been gilted and the cheeks lightly tinted. No photographer's backmark. Extensive pencil notes by Mr. Turner on back.

Vaught enlisted on March 6, 1862 as a 1st Lieutenant in the 5th Company of the Washington Artillery of New Orleans. Surrendered to General Canby on May 4, 1865.

Vaught fell overboard from a river boat and drowned in 1870.
