Built in 1818, the building featured in this image served as the Confederate Executive Mansion during the Civil War. This view was taken in 1865, sometime just after the capture of the city by US Forces on April 3rd, 1865.
The photo is mounted to a plain card, with some slight edge wear and discoloration – the image itself is in good condition. The reverse is plain, but written in period ink are the notes “Jeff Davis Executive Mansion, Richmond VA / taken in 1865 shortly after the evacuation.”
This is a stellar carte-de-visite for the collector of fine wartime images. [cm][ph:L]
