Waist-up view of Boyle in uniform. He wears a double-breasted frock with single star on collar (major). Image is clear with good contrast. Top edge of mount has been trimmed. Period ink signature on back, “Cornelius Boyle / Pro. Marshal Genl / A.N. Va.” as well as an orange 2-cent revenue stamp. Photographer’s backmark, T.W. Clark & Co., Norfolk, VA.

Appointed to Joe Johnston’s staff in April of 1862. During the war he served in the Quartermaster Department and as Provost Marshall.
