George Boardman Taylor (1832 - 1907) was born in Richmond, Virginia. He was the chaplain of the University of Virginia twice, a Confederate chaplain, a pastor, a missionary, and had oversight of the Baptist mission work in Italy. He was the founder of a Baptist theological seminary in Rome, Italy. He wrote a number of books. He wrote a systematic theology in Italian.

Taylor enlisted on 6/15/1862 as a Chaplain and was commissioned into the Field & Staff of the 25th Virginia Infantry. While in service he published several religious pamphlets for the Southern Army. He resigned on 10/1/1862.

From 1857-1869 he was Pastor at First Baptist Church, Staunton, Va. Then from 1869-1870, Chaplain, University of Virginia. In 1873 appointed by Mission Board of Southern Baptist Convention to Rome. Taylor was a Southern Baptist missionary to Italy, 1873-1907. He led in establishing the Baptist theological school in Rome. Served on the commission for revising the Italian New Testament.

He is buried in Rome, Italy.  [jet] [ph:L]
