Image of Henry Carter Lee in civilian clothes. Full standing studio view. Image is crisp and clear. Mount has been slightly trimmed around edges. Photographer's imprint below image on front. Elaborate backmark, J.W. Perkins & Co., Augusta, Georgia. Modern pen identification also on back.

Lee was born in 1842 in Fairfax County, Virginia. His grandfather was Lighthorse Harry Lee. His uncle, Robert E. Lee. His brother, General and Governor Fitzhugh Lee.

At the outbreak of the Civil War, he joined the "Richmond Howitzers," and later was transferred to the staff of General W.C. Wickham, where he served as Adjutant General.

He died in 1889 and is buried in Alexandria, Virginia.  From the late William Turner collection.   [jet] [ph:L]
