This is a carte de visite (cdv) photograph of William F. Smith in uniform. This is a full standing studio view with Smith resting his elbow on a prop column. He wears his single-breasted 9-button frock with 2nd lieutenant straps. He also has on his sash and sword belt, while cradling his foot officer’s sword in one arm and holding his forage cap in the other. An infantry horn insignia is clearly visible on the cap. A fine pen and ink identification is on the mount under the image.

A plain photographer’s backmark is printed on the back, Broadbent & Co., Philadelphia.

William Fishbourne Smith was from Philadelphia and enlisted on 1/28/1862 as a 2nd Lieutenant in Company "B" 115th Pennsylvania Infantry. He was discharged on 12/10/1862. This regiment was part of the Army of the Potomac.

William died in 1919 and is buried in Woodlands Cemetery, Philadelphia.
