This is a carte de visite (cdv) photograph of William Long Houpt in uniform. This is a bust view with Houpt in uniform. All that is visible in the top of his single-breasted 9-button frock with shoulder straps.

A plain photographer’s backmark is printed on the back: W.L Germon’s, Philadelphia.

Houpt was commissioned as Captain and commander of Company “I”, 115th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry on July 5, 1862. He served until he died of typhoid fever at Falmouth, Virginia on January 26, 1863. This regiment was part of the 3rd, and later 2nd Corps in the Army of the Potomac. William is buried in Durham Cemetery, Bucks County, Pennsylvania.
