This Carte de Visite (CDV) photograph shows a chest up view of Chandler in uniform.

In this view, Robert Chandler wears a full beard and moustache, a single-breasted frock, and captain’s shoulder straps. Image is clear with good contrast. Photograph is pasted on a typical double-ruled mount with “Brady / New York” printed along lower edge. There is a “Brady’s” backmark and brown ink signature, “Capt Robt Chandler” on the back side.

Brevet Major Robert Chandler was born 22 February 1827 in Batavia, Genesee County, New York. His widow’s pension card shows he was in Captain in Company “E”, 7th U.S. Infantry and later served as Captain and Assistant Adjutant General in Company “K”, 13th U.S. Infantry. Unfortunately, no additional information was found as “regular army” records are not as complete as Civil War state volunteer records. Chandler died on 10 May 1873 (aged 46) in Washington, DC, and is buried in Batavia Cemetery, Batavia, New York. [jet][ph:L]
