This is a very fine Carte de visite (CDV) photograph of 1/Lt. Hill in uniform. This is a full-standing Brady studio photo. He poses in a single-breasted frock coat complete with 1st lieutenant’s shoulder straps, gauntlets, foot officer’s sword, and waist belt. Image is perfectly clear with good contrast. Image is pasted onto a typical ruled mount; corners are slightly trimmed. “Brady / New York” is printed at the bottom. BRADY’S backmark printed on reverse along with nice brown ink signature, “James E. Hill”.
James E. Hill was 23 years old when he enlisted on 7/14/1861 at Tidioute, PA as a Sergeant in Company “F” of the 74th New York Infantry.
