A bust-length vignette carte de visite of Harvey Fisher of Philadelphia. He wears an officer's frock coat with first lieutenant's shoulder straps and a large, loosely tied cravat, and he has side whiskers and a mustache. Backmark: Wenderoth & Taylor, late Broadbent & Co., 912, 914 & 916 Chestnut St., Philadelphia, with studio negative no. 34165.

Fisher was commissioned second lieutenant of Co. A, 150th Pennsylvania, on August 19, 1862, and was promoted to first lieutenant on February 7, 1863. He was promoted to captain on March 6, 1864, but was not mustered at that rank. He served with the regiment through the end of the war and was mustered out at Elmira, New York, on June 23, 1865. He died on August 31, 1885.

The 150th Pennsylvania was one of the "Bucktail" regiments, and Company A was recruited in Philadelphia. Col. Langhorne Wister raised the regiment in September 1862, and it went straight to the defenses of Washington. Company K was detached as President Lincoln's bodyguard for the rest of the war. The rest of the regiment joined the Army of the Potomac in February 1863 and served in the First Corps. At Gettysburg on July 1, the brigade held an exposed line along the Chambersburg Pike that Doubleday called the key point of the first day's fighting. Every field officer was wounded, and the regiment lost 53 killed and mortally wounded, 134 wounded, and 77 missing. Two of its men received the Medal of Honor. In 1864 it moved to the Fifth Corps, serving for a time in Joshua L. Chamberlain's brigade, and it was mustered out in June 1865.

The reverse is identified in period pencil: "Lt. Harvey Fisher, Co. A, 150th P.V." "Fisher" is also written in darker pencil above. This is a sharp, identified portrait of a Philadelphia officer who served with the Bucktails from organization to muster-out.

Condition: Light overall toning to the mount and minor edge wear. A few small spots in the background and a faint mark near the bottom of the image. The facial detail is clear. The pencil identification on the reverse is faint but legible. Very good overall.   [ss] [ph:L]
