Vignette bust image of an unknown Union Colonel, Lieutenant Colonel or Major.
The subject sports muttonchops and wears a dark double-breasted frock coat. His shoulder straps are visible but the rank field is too light to discern his rank.
The subject’s head is slightly turned to the right and his facial expression is one of shock and surprise much like a child whose hand is caught in the cookie jar.
Image has very good contrast and clarity.
Reverse has back mark for HUGO BARTELS… WASHINGTON, D.C. [ad][ph:L]
