The unknown subject stands between a curtain and a balustrade and is posed holding his 1858 dress hat in his hand. The hat is fully adorned with plume, hat cord and infantry bugle with regimental number on the front of the crown. Unfortunately, the clarity is not sharp enough to make out the regimental number. The subject also wears a dark single-breasted frock coat with shoulder straps and matching dark trousers. At his waist is his sash, sword belt with rectangular plate and a Model 1850 Foot Officer’s sword attached.

Contrast and clarity are good. Mount and paper are clean with only some minor scattered foxing on the paper.

Reverse has a photographer’s imprint for J. W. BLACK… BOSTON. Also present on the reverse is the name “FLANDERS” in period pencil along with some modern pencil collector information. [ad][ph:L]
