Standing studio image of unidentified Naval officer uniform. Clear image with fair contrast. Hands and face have been tinted. Man is in double-breasted frock coat with waist belt, two-piece Navy buckle, and his Naval sword hangs at his side. He proudly holds his cap at his shoulder facing the camera. On the front of the cap is a wreath surrounding four oak leaves in the shape of a cross. This denotes an Engineer of some rank, likely only an Assistant Engineer based on the lack of any additional braid on his uniform.
Plain mount has had top and bottom edges trimmed. Back of mount has simple New York photographer’s imprint, top line partially obscured. [jet] [ph:L]
