CDV is a seated view of a US Navy Master holding an 1850’s knight’s head militia sword with a guard in the shape of a spread winged eagle and a thin chain for a knuckle guard. The subject wears a dark Naval officer’s visor cap with masters insignia, dark double-breasted frock coat with shoulder straps and cuff rank and matching dark trousers. At his waist is a plain black sword belt with two-piece tongue and wreath Navy buckle.
Contrast and clarity are very good. Mount and paper show only light surface dirt.
Reverse has a photographer’s imprint for J. WHITE… SALEM. [AD] [PH:L]
