Three-quarter view of a US Marine seated in an ornate high-backed chair with one arm resting on a cloth covered table. Next to his arm is his kepi with an infantry hunting horn on the front with the letter “M” in the center loop of the bugle.
The subject wears the Model 1859 double-breasted frock coat with a high collar and fringed shoulder scales. Trousers are light.
Image has good contrast and is clear. There is some light scattered surface dirt and a crease running diagonally through the subjects head.
Reverse has photographer’s imprint of R. A. MILLER… BOSTON. Reverse also has period pencil instructions for tinting the image but it was never done. There is also a 2 cent blue tax stamp. [ad][ph:L]
