This carte-de-visite features an unnamed Captain with a New York State belt plate.  “23” is visible on his kepi, most likely making him an officer of the 23rd New York.

The image is mounted to a typical card with gold edge bordering.  Minor scratching is noted along the upper right edge of the image and light discoloration in two localized areas is visible at the lower and upper edges of the card. Edges are sharp with very light rounding at the top corners and lower left corner.

The reverse features a photographer’s back mark logo reading “C.H. WILLIAMSON’S PHOTOGRAPHIC PORTRAIT GALLERY / “Vignette Speciality” / 245 Fulton St. / BROOKLYN. / Established 1851.”  A penciled notation reads “NOTE: N.Y. BUCKLE!” Very exciting, indeed.

A great image for the Civil War collector of all things New York.  [cm][ph:L]
