Offered here is a very fine carte de viste (CDV) photo of an unidentified Federal sergeant in uniform posing with his wife. Full studio view with soldier standing and wife seated next to him. He wears regulation nine-button frock coat with chevrons, trousers with stripe, sword belt, and fancy N.C.O. sword. Conveniently, he has his forage cap in hand with crown positioned such that we can clearly see an “F” and “47”. His wife is also very finely dressed. Image is clear with very good contrast. Plain unruled mount which remains untrimmed.
The photographer’s back mark is “J.W. BLACK / 173 WASHINGTON ST / BOSTON.” [jet][ph:L]
