This strikingly personal Civil War image features a bearded Sergeant in much of his dress uniform - standing amongst his seated wife, child, and well-behaved pup.
The carte-de-visite photo is mounted to a common card with double-gold gilt border patterns. Some light wear along the top edge is noted. The reverse is clean, save for a couple of more modern penciled notations, and a period one reading “Holmes”. The photographer back mark reads “PHOTOGRAPHED BY / J. U. P. BURNHAM, / No. 96 Middle St., / PORTLAND, MAINE.”
A very interesting and humanizing look at a Union Soldier and his cherished family. [cm][ph:L]
