This is a seated studio view of a uniformed Confederate soldier. He wears a single-breasted uniform jacket. The image is clear but light in contrast. Mr. Turner's pencil notes on the back offer "From LA album, M.J. Green, Pvt. Co B 28 LA Inf., or Pvt Co C Chalmette LA Militia. Bro in album with LA b/m." No photographer's backmark.

Records actually give us three choices:

M. Green, Company C, Chalmette Regiment of Louisiana Militia who enlisted on March 2, 1862 in New Orleans; no further record.

M. Green, Company B, 28th Louisiana Infantry, surrendered with General Smith to General Canby in May 1865; no other record.

M.J. Green, 4th Louisiana Infantry Battalion; no other record.
