This Carte de Visite (CDV) photograph shows a full standing view of a uniformed drummer; likely just post-Civil War period, possibly for a military school.

This slim young man wears a kepi with wreath insignia and “W[BS]”? (not sure of last two letters) within. Seeing that the photographer’s backmark is from Worcester, we’d guess that is what the “W” stands for. He also wears a single-breasted frock with shoulder straps, trousers with thin piping down the leg, a drum sling, and a waist belt with two-piece eagle belt plate. He holds a pair of drum sticks in his hand and has a drum at his feet. Photographer’s backmark is E.J. Leland, Worcester, Mass.

Image is clear with good contrast and pasted to a ruled mount. The mount is closely trimmed on all sides.

A nice drummer photo, just slightly post-Civil War.  [jet] [ph:jet]
