POSTMORTEM RUBY AMBROTYPE OF A CHILD IN A UNION CASE

$225.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 1043-262

Photograph is a sixth-plate image of a child between four and six years old lying on a bed of white pillows or cushions. His hair is neatly combed and he wears a dark jacket with white under sleeves and dark trousers.

Image is clear and has good contrast. There is a scratch in the emulsion running from the top edge to the child’s shoulder with smaller narrower scratches in the area of the forehead. The stamped brass mat and frame are the usual scroll decoration.

The union case that holds the image is in excellent overall condition. The raised decoration on the exterior shows a young girl petting a lamb within a thin liner border with scalloped medallions in each corner connected by vines. Case is free of chips and cracks. Interior has a plain crushed red felt pillow.  [AD]
