SIXTH-PLATE AMBROTYPE OF A CONFEDERATE CORPORAL

$2,250.00

Quantity Available: 1

Item Code: 1139-76

Straight on waist up view of a seated Confederate soldier sporting long sideburns and a mustache. He wears a very light-colored shell jacket that almost looks to be white. It has a high collar with five buttons visible down the front. The collar and cuffs are a shade or two darker than the rest of the jacket. Visible on each sleeve are dark corporal chevrons.

The clarity and contrast are excellent but there is a spot in the emulsion or a droplet of some photographer’s chemical just below the subject’s chin. Spatter from the drop shows lightly on the lower chin but most is confined to the chest. The buttons show traces of gilt paint.

Image is housed in a full leather case with a repaired hinge. Decorative floral mat and stamped brass frame are present. [sr] [ph:m]
